WHat are the hidden dangers of Contract plans for cell phones?

Mildred Pombo: There is a fee if you terminate early. Also, if you change phones (newer better model) they will renew and you are starting all over with the 24 months.

Russ Kiernan: these are excellent answers. Okay... i'll have to reconsider my motives. I checked with the telstra people. For some reason... i don't trust them... i got a call that I would get 10months free but when i visited the place, they said they don't pay 10months of your phone bill.

Shaunta Paap: I do not have this and do not know if it is anywhere else beside the US but would be worth looking intoCricket - flat rate every month $45 - no minutes usage or anything and no contract.

Jen Maday: i've had the contract plans for years and haven't found any "hidden surprises." there are good and bad things about both the prepaid and the contract plans. with the contract plans the unused minutes carry over from month to month where with the contract plans you either use the minutes or lose t! hem. if you start looking at the price per minute (or unit as some prepaid plans call them) you will see that the contract plans are definately cheaper. i dont know if you can upgrade a prepaid plan, but you can make changes to your plan with the contract plans. the only thing is that when you change your plan you have to start the 24-month contract over again. if you do terminate your contract early, there is usually a fee ($200 or more).i guess you need to look at how much you actually use your cell phone. my sis only uses hers for emergencies and so the prepaid plan makes more sense for her. i use my constantly so the contract plans work out better for me. before you actually purchase a contract plan, be sure to talk with a representative and they can explain the plan to you and answer any questions you may have....Show more

Mack Ukich: THank you if you answer.

Asa Soho: The only catches that I see with a contract are:1) Trying ! to get out of it early2) Going over the monthly allowance o! f minutes. Both can be very expensive !!!...Show more
