Shawn Lelis: To Teach Or Not To TeachorA Dream To Teach
answers 0:I am 34 weeks pregnant. Almost 35. Healthy pregnancy. My dentist is advising not to have the dental work done until after delivery if I can. Also have to travel 8 hours to get it done. I moved and don't have a dentist in town yet. So, can an OB induce at term to have the infection taken care of? I'm pretty much running out of options. What are the chances of my OB doing this? Maybe do an ultrasound to make sure the baby is developed before inducing? Is this an option? I swear I will get a dentist in town after this whole ordeal:)!!!...Show moreanswers 1:with that gestation your baby will have to go to the NICU after birth. Your baby is not fully developed at that time and can not eat at feeds and sometimes have breathing issues. Talk to your OB maybe he/she will agree to do it. Dependsa! nswers 2:You all should read a little more carefully. I said to not induce until term!!!!!answers 3:I would almost guarantee that your doctor will NOT induce you at only 35 weeks...the baby would need to be in NICU and it poses risks for the baby (even if you are having a very healthy pregnancy)... 35 weeks is much to early to be inducing. Unless the baby's life or your own is at risk, there's no way she will. Unfortunately you will very likely have to wait it out to get the dental work done.Talk to both your dentist and OBGYN about your options. But I would say that early induction is out of the question.....at least until 38 weeks MINIMUM....answers 4:Are you taking antibiotics? I'd definitely start those. It might stave off the infection for a few more weeks. I think you should talk to your OB!answers 5:Your doctor will most likley not induce you. Not just for a root canal. I had very bad gestational diabetes
Gaynell Pizzaro: Relationship Between Teaching And Learning
Reginald Maxi: teaching is sharing***learning is caring**
Garry Ohmen: for one - you can learn without being taught or without a teacher, but you can't teach without a learner :-))you can learn by trial & error, by observation, by experience, by own intelligence/rational thinking, from mistakes, etc. without needing to be "taught" formally. teaching is just one of the ways that can be adopted in order to learn.teaching, however, CAN speed up learning, make it more focused & relevant.then, in order to be able to teach, the teacher has to have learnt him/herself - either formally or informally. thus learning precedes teaching. a learner may not be a teacher but a teacher Has to be a learner.moreover, teaching & learning is actually an on-going interaction & communication between the 2 players. there is stimulus, response, feedback, mutual learning & growth.... you could also talk about situations or peo! ple who are not ideal, or are misfits in their role of teacher/learner. eg how bad teaching can dull learning & interest while good teaching can motivate students & optimize learning, association & recall.hope these get you started.all the very best...Show more
Marita Stadick: Well, theories of teaching must be based on theories of learning. The point of teaching is that children learn. So, a teacher has to know theories of learning and then teaching models have to be based on methods that will be consistent with how students learn. If you are taking some type of test in education then the learning styles thing is probably a part of the answer that your professor would want. But, truly, there is no research evidence that students have "learning styles" or that teaching to learning styles makes any difference in achievement. Really. But for some reason this seems to remain a popular notion in teacher preparation programs. Reflection is also a popular notion in educatio! n right now, and if a teacher thinks about what he or she does! in relationship to how children are learning then it is a very good strategy. What is missing is often data about how children are learning. One idea on how teachers can think about learning theories: They all have something to offer. Constructivist theories suggest that kids construct their own knowledge, so you as a teacher need to know what they know before you start teaching, and you need to constantly check to see that their understanding of the material matches what you want them to learn. Cognitive theories are related more to how students learn materials. This can help you to teach students ways to learn effectively (how memory works, how to get information into long-term memory, how to monitor your own learning--meta-cognition). Humanistic theories of learning suggest two things--that the relationship between the teacher and learner is very important, and teachers should work diligently to have a good relationship with students. It also suggests that motivation fo! r learning is internal, and teachers need to sometimes "get out of the way" of learning. Finally, the behavioral theories of learning suggest that the learning environment makes a big difference. Behavioral theories are useful for motivating students to learn, and they have a lot to say about how to teach students material in an organized fashion. At any rate, this is more than you wanted, but hope it is helpful....Show more

Myesha Zerbe: I haven't lived in any of those places (but I want to study abroad too, so I understand your dilemma), but I want to pass on a piece of advice given to me by a college counselor:Knowing and speaking a language is much different from being able to write essays and study extensively in that language. If you do study abroad, you should consider doing it somewhere where the primary language is English (such as an American school that is located on another country, but is American affiliated, such a! s example John Cabot in Rome, or an international school which has the opportunity to study in English). There, you can refine your French, Arabic, or Chinese until you feel you rally understand it, until you can think scholarly in that language, and only then pursue education in an actual University of that language. You can do this through a study abroad program or transferring to that school.Sorry I couldn't help with what yo were looking for, but I hope my advice helped a bit....Show more

Rebbecca Sorkin: You will need to obtain your Bachelor's Degree in Special Education. Upon graduation, you will be certified in specific areas of special education, for example, Cognitively Impaired, Learning Disabled etc., depending upon your course of studies at the college and the requirements of the state in which that college is located. You might be certified to teach K-12 or K-3, etc. Your program might have enabled you to be certified soley in the field of cognitive impairments, or, you could have been in a program which certifies you in several areas. It truly depends upon which state and college you attend when it comes to certification. You also need to keep in mind that just because you are certified in one state in specific areas, you are not automatically certified in those areas in another state; again, certification is often a truly individual case. There are states, however which will accept each other's certifications as is. These are situations which! are handled at the central office level in whichever school system you seek employment.Your initial teaching certificate in all liklihood is not permanent, but rather a provisional one. Some states will require you to obtain 20+ credits within 5 years for full permanent certification, while other states require a teacher to re-certify with a specific amount of credits every 5-7 years. Truthfully, you do not need a Master's degree to teach, however it is highly advisable that you do begin work on it as soon as possible. Finally, most states require that you pass the Praxis test to be certified/employed. I think it's wonderful that you are considering the profession. Although the road to "getting there" sounds like a lot of work, believe me, if you are committed and passionate about teaching students with special needs - it is all worth it.

Patrick Bitsui: I'm a working single mom and I work weekend nights so I can be home during the day on weekdays. My kids stay with their dad on weekends. Can your child stay with a relative while you work? Could she possibly be a 'mother's helper' for another homeschooling family? We don't use a curriculum so can't help you there.
Providencia Jalbert: The great thing about homeschooling is that you can set your own hours. Each state will have its own laws, check into the laws for your state. In many states only 4-6 hours per day are required; and those hours can be at any time you choose - whatever works best for both you and them! You can browse online websites to get an idea of what type textbooks you would like to use. There are workbook types like Alpha Omega and there are computerized programs like Switched on Schoolhouse. There are also a lot of umbrella or parent groups/organizations that you can join if you wish to help oversee things and help give you p! ointers, etc. Many of these homeschool groups meet and get together for projects or social activities; some of them also test periodically; and some of them are even accredited (like Gateway Christian schools). Some of them require church attendance to help build social skills. If homeschooling is something you are interested in, then you might contact Gateway or some other umbrella school and ask them to send you some basic information on homeschooling (they'll be glad to do that). If you know other homeschoolers in the area, it would be a good idea to talk to them also; they can answer questions you might have or even give you ideas or tips on various types of programs/literature/textbooks, etc....Show more

The Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) has information on how to legally homeschool in your state:http://www.hslda.org/laws/default.aspAlso, keep in mind, that homeschooling does not have to be done during conventional hours; my schedule allows for conventional "school" hours for my homeschool. However, this is not the case for many homeschooling parents, but that's the beauty of homeschooling. You can homeschool in the evenings and on weekends too. You also have the option of choosing a curriculum that allows for more indepen! dent study (depending on the ages of your children.)If you are convinced! that homeschooling is the best option for your children, I encourage you to find a way to make it happen. Ofelia Kieck: Oh, please, the people crying "socialization" are ignorant; not all kids in school have friends or any positive socialization at all-- look at all the screwed up, strange and freakish kids and people in the world-- we all know that the vast majority of them went to public school, we all know public school is no garauntee for normalcy. People-- have you really never had a life outside of the school walls? Gosh I pity some of you that don't realize there is a whole world full of people and opportunities out there.Anyway, AS FOR WORKING AND HOMESCHOOLING It can be done, but there are some things to think about.First off, you didn't mention the ages of the kids. If th! ey are teens they can absolutely do a lot of work independantly, plus get involved in social activities, volunteering work, etc., outside the house. If they're young, like elementary school age, you'll need to consider who they'll be with in the daytime-- do you have a sitter? Someone who will not only make sure they get some work done while you're gone, but also take them out so they get some social interaction? If at least one of your kids are mid-teens and up, they might be a great asset to you.For a while when I was working full time out of the house my boys were with my mother in the mornings; they'd read, do some workbooks/worksheet pages, work a little on a research project or a computer program, then at 2 pm go to a boys club where I would pick them up around 6 pm. I would go over new concepts and things with them on Saturday mornings or a couple of nights per week after dinner. We would also work through the summer and take vacations/days off whenever we wanted. Th! at way I could not worry about preparing lessons or grading papers duri! ng my busy season at work but get a lot done during the dog days of summer. Oh, and don't let people try to guilt you if you let teens watch younger kids, or if you give your kids house hold chores to do or responsibilities-- that's one of the biggest problems with kids today, people have forgotten that giving kids real responsibilities is GOOD for them, it helps raise responsible adults. The whole family should be pitching in to help each other with education, chores, and fun....Show more
Brenton Cornwall: My children greatly enjoy it. But we are heavily involved in homeschool support group activities and events, so they have lots of fun things to do with other people--I think that helps a lot. And we try not to do just bookwork at home, but do lots of hands-on activities, discussions, and other things to keep it fun. It is all in how you do it...
Tricia Dossous: I started being home schooled last month, yes I like it, I don't have to put up with everyone's ****.I do still have a social life, I hang out with all my FRIENDS. Not people I didn't like in the first place which is what I had to do before.
Stanton Valdivia: Yes, I enjoy being home schooled. Likes:Flexible Schedule - more time for volunteering, taking extra courses, or just hanging out with my friendsMore social opportunity's - I have more friends than most of my public or private school friends :)Better Education - I can spend more time on concepts I don't understand or less on on! es that I already know. I also can challenge myself more :pDislikes:Need to be more motivated - This isn't a personal dislike, I honestly like having to be motivated, some people don't like to and like being forced to do school. I think that this helps out in terms of being prepared for college, there isn't going to be your parents there telling you to do your work so by the time you reach college you are already used to it. :)Those are just a few of the "likes" for me, and that one "dislike" for others (just thought you might want to know what a few others think as well). :)...Show more
Elfreda Grossen: I've been homeschooIed for 3 years (since 9th grade), and I compIeteIy hate it. My parents just use it as a tooI to get work done from me now. I wouId have rather been in schooI, even with the buIIies, presentations, and peer pressure. My parents are a 24/7 bully.
Hilde Heskett: No!! It's so lonely I hated it it's fun for about 2 days but after that I was over i! t and I had no motavation to do any work.
Wilfredo Muldo! on: there is relatively some learn and documents accessible on the pros and cons of homeschooling those days. My suggestion is to modern-day a number of this documents on your mom/dad and mom alongside along with your own reasons for wishing to homeschool. seem for a homeschooling help team on your section and perhaps your mom could be keen to attend a gathering. If she hasn't stated "no", there remains wish. Homeschooling may be an extremely advantageous and priceless adventure as long as every person is on board with the call. you do no longer might desire to be unwell, injured, or have a topic as a fashion to homeschool. that's basically no longer real. do no longer permit your college district inform you in any different case. maximum college districts are very lots against homeschooling because of the fact THEY lose money while young ones withdraw. they could additionally attempt to cajole you to do college on line by using ability of the district as this could nonethe! less enable them to income sales on your behalf. i'm never against college districts yet have won know-how of this in view that we began homeschooling a 300 and sixty 5 days in the past. Homeschooling can artwork while you're inspired sufficient, you may get your artwork performed in a short volume of time and have the the remainder of the day for different events, extra-curricular, electives, and so on. there is a vital volume of "fill in time" that incorporates public college. it quite is why pupils might desire to stay at college for such an volume of time/might desire to be their all day long. perhaps your mom is likewise a sprint intimidated over her being the two mom and instructor. i understand i became with my own young ones yet this too exceeded and that i ultimately became much less overwhelmed. it relatively is variety of frightening at circumstances thinking i'm in charge for offering my young ones' curriculum yet i attempt to take it sooner or later at a time. ! answers 0:A neighbor of ours is moving and can't afford to take his dog with so he's asked my family to take the dog.We currently have three dogs.My mum doesn't want him but my dad does. He has rotten teeth and would need a $1000 surgery for it but the current owner has offered to get him dental insurance, pay the first month and the deductible and is willing to purchase two 50lbs bags of food for him as well. I will be starting a job within the next month (neighbor moves in a month) and I would be able to pay for him and I will be moving out of the house in a year and would take the dog with me.So basically, with all this information, i need help/advice on how to approach this as I'm already attached to the dog and he needs a loving home.I need to get both my parents to say yes....Show moreanswers 1:sorry but this is ad! og. have it put to sleep and give the $1000 to a humananswers 2:this guy clearly can't be bothered to take proper care of his dog. What makes you think he's actually going to do what he says and contribute so much? he "SAYS" he's going to do that, but considering he's failed to take proper care of this dog, Sounds to me like he's full of crap and just saying it so you'll take the dog. You're going to be stuck taking in a dog you can't afford to care for.answers 3:Ask your parents why they don't want the dog. Then shut up and LISTEN. After they are finished listing their concerns, politely and respectfully ask for a couple of days to work out a plan to alleviate their concerns. Ask them for a list of what needs to be done - i.e., maybe you need proof of that insurance, or several hundred bucks, or an estimate from two vets for the procedure that the dog needs, etc. Finally, if you CANNOT take this dog, then instead focus your energies on what is best for him. If you start now! , there is a good chance that you can help him get a great hom! e/into a reputable rescue instead of dumped at a shelter....answers 4:Tough. You have three dogs you dont take care of and since you are a child and can't own any pets and don't pay for the vet bills you have zero say in getting another dog. You can't make your parents say yes to another dog they can't afford and you wont tkae care of. Are YOU going to pay for the expensive vet bills to have the dogs rotting teeth removed? How about the 1,000 a year for the dogs general upkeep? Insurance won't cover the teeth extraction since its a existing condition. If you want the dog then get a job and move out...answers 5:Insurance companies will not insure a dog for a pre-existing condition.Never buy more than one months supply of food as it will go stale and the dog will get sick resulting in more vet bills. It's your parents house, their rules, live with it or move out with this dog....answers 6:Insurance won't cover preexisting conditions, so the dental will need to be paid by some! one, out of pocket. And if his teeth are that bad, he may have organ damage as well. Often there is more to these things than are revealed to us. Does your mom say why she is opposed to the dog? Without understanding her reasons, there is no way to convince her. Adding another dog is more than an expense - it's more walking and grooming, more yard clean up, more mess. Is this dog used to living with other dogs? A new dog does upset the balance in the household - three dogs is frankly a lot, and the fourth one may tip things over the edge. This is a decision that needs to be made with the mind as well as the heart....answers 7:Were on Earth are you were a tooth removal costs a $1000? A couple of my rescues had rotten teeth removed too and it never cost more than $150 depending on the amount of teeth.answers 8:No means no. You already have 3 dogs.
Debora Soliani: You completely the 10th grade.when applying for a job.
Dale Mccoun: You should put High School as your highest education. Although it may mean what you've completed so far but if you're 16 years old you are basically almost done with high school. Hope this helps.

Ulrike Hert: Financial aid will still pay for your classes but if you fail to maintain academic standards, you will be ineligible for future aid and will have to pay out of pocket.
Roland Stampley: If you are on probation than you should have to pay for the entire semester on your own and they will not pay it back later. If you do poorly you may not get aid for a while. If you do good than you will get off probation and get aid again. Thats how the schools in my area do it at least.
Lizzette Wendroth: If you are on FA probation, then the one person who can help you clearly understand what you must do is your academic adviser. Please talk with them. They can give you clear guidance on what you need in order to get off probation & save your financial aid
Rodolfo Merel: Tink:There is no "income cutoff" for financial aid, and in fact, Bill Gates' children are eligible for "financial aid", if they were to decide to apply for it when they get to college age. There are MANY factors that determine your eligibility for financial aid - if your eligibility was determined by your parents' annual income, the financial aid application (the "FAFSA") would be 2 questions long. "What is your name, and how much did your mom and dad earn last year?"When you actually sit down with the FAFSA, you'll see that it's 104 questions long - and nearly every bit of information that you provide in those 104 responses is used to determine your financial aid eligibility. You'll see that there are topics there that you haven't even hinted at in your question - things like "How many brothers and sisters you have", "Whether any of them go to school", "What taxes your parents paid last year", "Whether you had any income last year", "What kinds of savings an! d investments do your parents have", and lots, lots more.Even if your parents earned a few million dollars last year, you would STILL qualify for at least two forms of federal student aid - access to the Stafford lending program for you, and access to the PLUS lending program for your parents. If you don't understand how loans can be a form of financial aid, it's only because you haven't tried to apply for any other type of student loan yet. The government's Stafford and PLUS programs ARE available - you'll need a lot of luck and some extraordinarily good credit to find any other lenders making student loans right now. (Plus, the government's loans are much cheaper). So - no - there is no cut-off for financial aid. The only way to determine what forms of aid you qualify for is to complete the entire FAFSA application. When you do that, the Department of Education will use your information to calculate an Expected Family Contribution score for you, and that EFC will be used t! o determine what forms of aid you are eligible for.For more in! fo, I highly recommend the really helpful Department of Education booklet called "Funding Education Beyond High School: The Guide to Federal Student Aid". You can either read it here: http://studentaid.ed.gov/students/attachments/site... or you can ask your Guidance office for a hard copy.Good luck to you....Show more

Sherri Drakos: I hope that I'm not the bearer of bad news but, unless your TIVO is an older model made to work with DIRECTV, it will not work with DIRECTV (refer to the TIVO link below). The older TIVO's (and newer DVRs) require 2 cables from the dish to watch one program and record another simultaneously. There are two inputs, satellite 1 and satellite 2 on the back of the TIVO. In the TIVO setup, you have to select that you have one or two inputs. Oh yes, you'll have to call DIRECTV before you do anything anyway because they have to authorize your TIVO and set up TIVO service....Show more

Chi Alfero: look for the rest of your equipment on ebay. you can find some good deals. I bought an off-air HD receiver for 100 bucks, and that gets me the local HD channels w/ a set up bunny ears. the picture says it all. have fun watching discovery channel and sports all day. :)
Chris Coggins: First off, HD channels will be the standard anyway on or before 2010, a Bestbuy salesman told us. Second, a progressive scan DVD player will do just fine with an HDTV, all you need are some good quality A/V cables. As for the HD DVR, you could have waited for some more competition to drive the price down.
Silvia Stclair: Not to me...regular tv is just fine for me....but I don't watch it all that much.
Ilana Gaster: Well, that's what "economics" is all about--whether something is "worth it" or not. Obviously by 2009 prices will come down and it'll be easier for most to switch to digital (I believe the government will subsidize converter boxes that will convert di! gital signal to analog, and downconvert HDTV, for those who can't get new TV's). You didn't HAVE to upgrade your stuff this year, nor get all the upgrades available to you. You made the choice to do so, and paid the cost of being "ahead of the game" and having all this cool stuff years before everyone else does....Show more
Fritz Sisomphou: I have a HD wide screen TV with built-in HD receiver and use rabbit ears to get the signals. I get all the major networks NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX and PBS in Hi Def when it is broadcast. Iâm in L.A. and that matters if you live in a similar high population area. Even the local stations broadcast in hi def. I watched the World Series in Hi Def and it was eye-popping. What isnât explained clearly is that the FCC designed Hi Def to broadcast thru the air-not thru cable. I live in the Time Warner cable area and they do not offer all the HD channels that I can receive with rabbit ears. One thing, all the major local stations have standar! d definition broadcast still operating and is a choice on my H! D tuner. Like you know can tune channel 4 but the same channel will have channels 4.2, 4.3, 4.5 which operate at the same time-I mean while hi-def Heroes is playing on channel 4.0, lo def Heroes is playing on 4.1 while lo-def local weather reports play on 4.2 and lo-def local traffic conditions on 4.3. Another major point: when there is no signal, Hi Def video will disappear completely-no static, no fuzzy video-just complete blackness. Weak Hi def signals video will appear as a dirty DVD-skipping and freezing and jumping forward unexpectedly. Is it worth it? Not yet. Give it about a year.Sorry you had to spend so much. For those who want to give it a try: buy a small wide screen with an HDTV tuner built in and some rabbit ears antennas--see if you can pick up the channels you like to watch. If that works for you go for the bigger screens and hd recorders....Show more
Tyler Burkman: Not worth it yet, because there is not enough Hi def broadcasting. But it will be in ! the future.
Jodie Capella: It's not too expensive. Regular television has about 260 lines of information. Do you remember how much of an upgrade DVD's gave with their 480 Lines? Imagine upgrading to 720 lines of information or more! I installed a 100 inch screen that allows people to see blades of grass during football games! My opinion may be slightly biased since I've had surround sound since 1988. I'm one of those audio nuts.
Karl Samiec: well.. my dad and i bought a 42" plasma.. $2700.. i bought a hd upconvert dvd player.. $200.. monster hdmi 1000 for $150.. hd direct tv only no dvr.. $99 for the reciever.. installation and stuff is free.. paying only 10 bucks for the hd content.. i say its worth it.. im watching Discovery HD, National Geographic HD (where available) and the science channel... and the images are mind boggling.. so sweet
