Need a second opinion on some recommended car repairs?

Lilli Kochel: you really need a second opinion.. same thing happened to me dude, i knew that i didn't need a new engine and i was right, they r scamming u,, and Honda's r good cars that don't break down so easily.. best thing to do is forget the guy who told u that and call honda, or take it to the honda dealership to get it looked at. u should make an apt to get an oil change with them and mention what the other place told u, and they will def. let u know of anything wrong.. don't believe it until u hear it more them once....Show more

Bianca Lannier: What has gone wrong is the rod bearing has gone bad, and most likely ruined the crankshaft.... It could be repaired, the parts wouldn't cost that much, but the engine needs to be completely disassembled, and reassembled...If the oil light didn't come on I would get a second opinion, from a Honda mechanic....Honda will not do a goodwill repair on a seven year old car, that's the end of life expectancy.......Show more

Brittney Inabnit: I replaced an Engine with a New Re-manufactured one. I will never replace an Engine again.First off you say they want to put another used engine in there? For $2800.00 not a Rebuilt . Ripoff! Even a Rebuilt is not that good. Engines are made to last an average of 100,000 miles. New , Rebuilt 50,000 to 80,000 average. 2002 car? 7 years old. in 2 or 3 years the body is going to go to the crapper. let alone all the other parts on the car. bearings at 100,000 as in wheel . cv joints all are expensive. You will be chasing after problems forever. Buy a different car, and junk it.If you have a payment on it sorry. I did that too. paid for 3 years and couldn't drive the D%^$n thing. Take my advice and get out now while you can. Unless you can get the manufacturer to fix it for you. If they have that kind of a warranty on it.Also I was Ripped off by 2 separate Mechanics.on the same car. One took the money like this guy you are talking about and never fixed t! he car. I had to go and forcibly repossess My own property aft! er I sued in court. 2nd One blew the Brand new motor I bought to put in it. Then He wanted to put a used like you are talking about. I took the block back to its manufacturer and they replaced it even though they didn't have too. Thanked MY lucky stars! Watch your Butt! And your wallet Good Luck!...Show more

Burt Cheevers: You're being duped, somehow. Perhaps the people that put on your timing belt did something wrong, or hid their lack of skill. Unless the timing belt breaks first, Honda's can run for 300,000 + miles easily. Did your belt break before replacing?? Chances are that the noise you're hearing is a bent valve, not a rod. Exhaust manifolds on Honda's don't go bad unless there is a fuelmixture issue that cuases an over-heat. BURN-OFF is BULL-S$^&*!!!! SOmething went wrong between the timing belt replacement, and now. Good luck!!...Show more

Derrick Kloke: It sounds to me like you have a bum shop. Go find a different shop, you are being taken. Good lu! ck.

Daren Ventrice: Maybe you could wait it out. I do know that my current car has 117,000 miles on it and from what you describe its had a similar problem for about 18 thousand miles. One thing i know to try first is to put in a higher octane fuel, just once and test it out because i was told its because my engines too hot and running extremely lean. Try this before you spend that kind of money

Ollie Desalvo: It's very clear you NEED to get a second opinion. They may be correct however. If there was no oil and you change it regularly, that indicates a significant problem perhaps outside the engine, it shouldn't all burn off and had it burned that much oil you should have noticed a lot of smoke in the exhaust. Running without oil can do a lot of damage and quickly kill an engine regardless of it's age. Also, I don't know what sort of rod they'd be referring to either, could be pushrods, oil rods, but I'd assume its the connecting rod. A noisy bent or broken connec! ting rod may indeed require a full engine rebuild or replacement. In the! end it may be that your engine is truly in bad shape and may need to be rebuilt or replaced which would be in the 2 grand range, but before you go doing that I'd highly reccomend taking it to another garage or perhaps 2, and making certain that that is your issue....Show more

Nilda Bafia: A rod alone cannot be repaired , you could call Honda about repairs , but good luck with that too. Replacing the motor really is the best way to solve that problem. You should find out about a warranty on the used motor and how much the garage doing the work backs up their work as well. Also try calling Jasper Engines for a price for a rebuilt motor , sometimes their prices are pretty good and thier warranties are excellent.
