Raven Purl: That's a darn good question. UK has some of the world's best beers, but as with beer drinkers in the US, Brits think drinking foreign beers make them look choosey and sophisticated.Stella Artois is to Europe what Heineken is to the US. It's everybody's idea of an "import" beer, and has no body, no color, and no flavor, except a moderate dose of hops. That's not to say that it's a bad beer, but it's the training wheels of world beers.Belgium, in my opinion, brews the best beer in the world. Stella Artois is in no way an example of a Belgian beer. It's a French recipe, originally brought to Belgium by a Frenchman. Once again, that's nothing against it, bu! t the rich, full-bodied, subtly spiced beers of Belgium put it! to shame. If you're in the UK, you have plenty of options for good beer without reaching across any borders. Bass, Guinness and Harp are all popular for a reason. Bass is definitely my favorite beer outside the family of Belgium-style beers. If you're a fan of Stella Artois, I'd recommend trying Pilsener Urquell, which is the original pilsener off of which all other pilseners are modeled. It's got a flavor and body similar to Stella, with what I think is a much improved flavor and hop profile. Still not my favorite style of beer, but it's head and shoulders above Stella in my opinion....Show more
Jana Sakasegawa: Stella Artois is cheap beer.
Billie Bratchett: Stella have a good business deal with the railway companies. The companies buy where they get the best deals for drinks that will sell.Brits like Stella Artois. The railway companies buy it cheap and make a good profit. No mystery. In Britain we have a long tradition of making good beers. Proper beer, not ! watery stuff like Bud.Belgian beers are also good, not that Stella is a good example of them. There are far better Belgian beers than Stella.. I've been round the Stella plant, and the Carlsberg plant at Valby in Copenhagen, another bottled beer that's popular in the UK and all over Europe. We don't all drink foreign beers. A pint of good old English bitter goes down a treat....Show more
Raul Tllo: This is a terrible thing. They are killing themselves mouthful by mouthful. There are very many wonderful beers in Britain. But they are not sold in cans. You wouldn't expect to find a particularly fine vintage wine pumped full of CO2 and sold in a tin can. Study carefully:http://www.camra.org.uk/...Show more
Christy Tirabassi: So what? All over Europe we have choice. We have plenty of beers and ales, of our own, too. By the way, we are not UK people, but British people.
